Rebecca Black has given us all a throwback of Friday – but only because you asked so nicely.

Many people will remember the childhood star kickin’ it in the front seat (or was it the backseat?) nine years ago to her song Friday, which went viral for all the wrong reasons.

Rebecca, then 13, even received trolling and death threats for her repetitive hit after the song was crowned as YouTube’s most disliked song for a period of time.

But now Rebecca is all grown up, and despite leaving Friday in her rearview mirror for a serious music career, the singer was willing to revisit the infamous track just one more time.

Giving the pop track a little acoustic feel, the almost unrecognisable singer opened up her TikTok video saying: ‘Okay! Okay! But only because you asked nicely.’

And despite the simple lyrics remaining exactly the same, the song sounds pretty cool nearly a decade on.

The viral star previously opened up about the dark time she had when the single was first released back in 2011, saying that she was ‘afraid of the world’.

In February 2020 on the 9th anniversary of the song, Rebecca posted this heartfelt message: ‘9 years ago today a music video for a song called “friday” was uploaded to the internet.

‘Above all things, I just wish I could go back and talk to my 13 year old self who was terribly ashamed of herself and afraid of the world.

‘To my 15 year old self who felt like she had no one to talk to about the depression she faced. To my 17 year old self who would go to school only to get food thrown at her and her friends. To my 19 year old self who had almost every producer/songwriter tell me they’d never work with me.

‘Hell, to myself a few days ago who felt disgusting when she looked in the mirror! I’m trying to remind myself more and more that every day is a new opportunity to shift your reality and lift your spirit.

‘You are not defined by any one choice or thing. Time heals and nothing is finite. It’s a process that’s never too late to begin. And so, here we go! This might be a weird thing to post but the honesty feels good if nothing else.’

Rebecca is currently enjoying the otherside of going viral for her TikTok dance song Sweetheart.
