Steve Martin’s iconic, three-piece white suit is going under the hammer.

The Father of the Bride star is auctioning off some of his costumes and memorabilia from TV shows and films over the years.

Specifically the pristine suit he wore during his 1980s stand-up comedy performances is expected to fetch around $20,000 (£16,000).

It is a great suit to be fair.

Fans of the Hollywood star, 74, will be able to bid for some of his awards, posters, musical instruments, props and personal items spanning five decades of his career.

All proceeds made from the sales will go to the Motion Picture And Television Fund’s Country House And Hospital.

Julien’s Auctions said: ‘This signature suit established Martin as one of the greatest comic geniuses of the era and would also be one of only three such suits that the star would ever wear.’

Another of Steve’s suits was donated to the Smithsonian Museum, where it is on display.

Anyone who attends the auction will see pieces from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid and Little Shop Of Horrors going under the hammer.

Steve had a rich, on-screen career spanning five decades, during which time he did acting, comedy, music and filmmaking.

Awards for his work include an Emmy, a Grammy and an American Comedy award.

The auction for Steve’s acting clothes and memorabilia takes place on 18 July at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills and live online at
